small batch

Data and AI meetups, without the drive to SF.

Small Batch is a small, recurring meetup in the Tri-Valley for people who build data platforms, pipelines, and AI systems. Capped at 10 people, with demos from folks in the room and one good question to talk through.

How a batch works

About 70 minutes, the same shape every time, so you always know what comes next.

  1. 20 minutes

    Arrive and settle in

Find a seat. No icebreakers, no forced mingling. Say hi to whoever's nearby, or don't.

  2. 20 minutes

    Show your stack

Two or three people show something on their laptop, five minutes each, around the table. No projector, no slides.

  3. 30 minutes

    One question, whole room

We talk through one question together. It goes up a week ahead, so you can think it over first, or just listen.

  4. As long as you like

    Stay or head home

Some people stick around to keep talking. Nobody minds if you slip out.

Who comes

Data engineers, platform and infrastructure folks, analytics engineers, and anyone wiring AI into real data systems. If you live or work in Livermore, Dublin, Pleasanton, San Ramon, or Danville, this is your room.

Typical topics: pipelines and orchestration, lakehouses and warehouses, semantic layers, RAG over company data, agents that query databases, evals, and what all of it costs.

House rules

  • No pitches, no recruiting.
  • Demos beat slides.
  • A good question counts as contributing.
  • Can't make it? Free your seat.

Built something worth five minutes?

Show it at the next batch. A laptop is all you need, and the room is on your side.
